He has little knowledge of the players out there who can make a difference, which showed when he signed a player who was a minor upgrade from Cleverley for near 30mil in Herrera.
I think even Moyes would still have been better.
I would have rathered any of these in this order:
Rudi Garcia
Ancelotti
Simeone
Conte
Martinez
But Now we have to try and make the most of the situation and hope Van Gaal wises up, Makes big signings, and implements a good system.
The forwards are great. Midfield is ok but everyone knows it needs a World Class player.But the base of a trophy winning team is a solid back line which we don't have now. Herrera is a really good player but needs someone to partner him who is good.
For me it was not a huge surprise we lost this match. I mean Lingard and(later Januzaj )as RWB when we are already playing a makeshift one on the left. The back three is inexperienced when it comes to this formation as well.
Well, our defense was a makeshift defense today.....We lost three of the most experienced solid defenders........Even amongst the players we have left, we had our first choice fullbacks out....Lingard as a wing back was a bit risky.....Young had done ok in pre season as a wing back; didn't play well at ALL today.......
We do need signings....I think defense is top priority atm.....At the very least a central defender alongside a fullback (a central midfielder would be good too).

Also, we are trying a new system and it doesn't always work at first and this system is not used in the Premier League too often.

Yeah, to be a top side you have to have two in and out centerbacks of top quality. And they don't have that in my opinion. Its time to be realistic.
i suspect the money may be an issue. however if the money is there losing our fist match might urge the yanks to cough up
